About This Show

The deadly scourge of cancer has confounded doctors since ancient Egypt. Now, The Cancer Genome Atlas (modeled after the Human Genome Project) promises a new and powerful approach in this age-old battle. Its goal is to understand the genetic basis of cancer so thoroughly that the genes may be identified, singled out and targeted for treatment. What’s more, genes that most frequently mutate into a particular cancer could also be selectively identified and targeted with spectacular precision. Join a discussion including Eric Lander, Mary-Claire King and other leaders in the field as they describe how and why the balance of power in the war on cancer may finally be shifting.
