About This Show

This annual concert was created 15 years ago by aspiring musical theater actors to highlight social injustices and civil rights issues through song and spoken word. This year, 12 songwriting teams and performers have joined forces to present new songs for the evening, including Tony Award winner Gavin Creel (Hello, Dolly!), Tony nominee Chris Jackson (Hamilton), Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (Les Misérables), Tony nominee Adrienne Warren (Shuffle Along), Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Lindsay Mendez (Wicked), and Andréa Burns (On Your Feet!). Susan Blackwell returns as host, with Peter Flynn (Beauty and the Beast) and Daniel Goldstein (Godspell) returning as codirectors. This year’s music director is Kurt Crowley, also the music director of Hamilton. Proceeds from the concert will go to the New York Civil Liberties Union, funding its mission to promote and protect the civil rights and liberties of all New Yorkers.
