About This Show

The composers of the Baroque were among the most radical who ever lived, obsessively pushing the limits of virtuosity and expanding the boundaries of expression. It was an era that prized musical individuality, and the finest Baroque masters achieved distinctive styles that make them instantly recognizable. This program gathers an international collection of the beautiful and the bizarre, ranging from Pachelbel’s timeless Canon (in its original setting, with a Gigue attached) to Biber’s musical depiction of drunken revelry.

Program:

Heinrich Von Biber Battalia for Strings and Continuo
Antonio Vivaldi Sonata in D minor for Two Violins and Continuo, RV 63, “La Follia”
Johann Pachelbel Canon and Gigue in D major for Three Violins and Continuo
Georg Muffat Passacaglia in G major for String Quintet
Georg Philipp Telemann Concerto in A minor for Recorder, Two Violins, and Continuo
George Frideric Handel Selections from Nine Arias for Soprano and Continuo, HWV 145
Antonio Vivaldi Concerto in G minor for Recorder, Oboe, Bassoon, Violin, and Continuo, RV 107
