59E59 Theaters hosts A Day With A Knight, two special Master Classes given by legendary playwright and director Alan Ayckbourn to coincide with the New York premiere of his new play Private Fears In Public Places, which is part of 59E59’s Brits Off Broadway festival.

Acting Comedy Master Class 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

This special Master Class is for actors in the early stages of their careers. Working with Alan Ayckbourn, participants will explore and develop selected extracts from his plays. It provides a rare opportunity to share the process and see the scenes take shape.

The Art of Playmaking Lecture 3:00 PM

Alan Ayckbourn’s recently published a book, The Crafty Art of Playmaking, uses experience and anecdotes to explain how plays are put together. The book details Mr. Ayckbourn’s set of “Obvious Rules” for writing and directing plays. Explaining the success, the pitfalls, and the personalities encountered along with way, Mr. Ayckbourn will illustrate these rules to the audience, and answer questions.
