About This Show

M.O.M. is Moutin – Omicil – Moutin, the assembly of three « mômes » (French slang for “kids”) determined to confront everything this music can offer:

Louis Moutin – drums
Jowee Omicil – clarinet, saxophones
François Moutin – bass

The genesis of this trio was an unplanned encounter on the set of the Netflix show The Eddy." Between Jowee Omicil and Louis Moutin, the connection is immediate and instinctive. Louis' brother François Moutin happens to be traveling through Paris around the time of the end of the shooting. He joins Jowee and Louis for a few home sessions. The trio improvises with a completely frameless approach, driven by the thread of its collective imagination and by its individualities’ mutual listening. A singular sound emerges, melodies get created on the spot. A whole world blossoms at the point of equilibrium of the three personalities. The trio’s creativity appears to flow organically, just as fluid as it is jubilant. M.O.M.’s music is altogether joyful, intense, deep and spontaneous. More about The Moutin Brothers  |  More about Jowee Omicil

ABOUT JOWEE OMICIL
A son of Haitian emigrants, Jowee Omicil grew up in Montréal. He started playing the sax in the church where his father was a minister, before studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, then moving to New York City to launch his musical career – and, at times, confer with Ornette Coleman or accompany Roy Hargrove as part of the band RH Factor. He then lived in Haiti and Panama and settled in Paris a couple of years ago after signing with the Jazz Village label. Although ‘settled’ is perhaps not the best term to describe him. Retracing Jowee Omicil’s steps precisely would have required a satnav.
In any case, all of this – thirty years, ten years, a month or two hours ago – is ancient history. What counts is that Love Matters! The here and now, the epiphany, the magic of a moment shared, the sweat and bliss of work well done. The 15 tracks on his Love Matters! album came out of the same recording sessions as Let’s BasH!, the album which brought Jowee Omicil to public notice in France last year. This, paired with his visibility in the Netflix show "The Eddy," has brought Jowee center stage in 2022.
