About This Show

The Passage Theatre presents Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre in OLÉ! (La Cueva de Sacromonte), which transports audiences to the Sacromonte hills of Granada, Spain, where for decades the Gypsies have entertained the locals and tourists in their cuevas (cave taverns). The performance recreates a traditional and passionate tablao (nightclub style) setting at one of these historical taverns. The Gypsy “family” performs Flamenco dances traditional to these cuevas, such as the exciting Rumbas, the Alegrías (one of the oldest Flamenco dances) and the festive regional dance Sevillanas, as well as other more dramatic Flamenco dances from other regions of Andalucia, such as Tientos and Solea. The family’s “matriarch,” Eva, guides the audience through the show.

The Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre (Eva Lucena, Executive and Artistic Director) is a non-profit organization whose mission is the cultivation and preservation of the dances and music from Spain.
