The rich myth making skills of James Michener come to life in one of Broadway’s most expansive musicals, South Pacific. Set in the Pacific Islands in the midst of World War II, this Pulitzer Prize -winning play chronicles two love stories – that of a young US lieutenant and a young Polynesian girl, and a Navy nurse from Little Rock and a French planter. With music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, South Pacific features some of the great songs of the century, including “Some Enchanted Evening,” “There is Nothing Like a Dame,” “Happy Talk,” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair.”
