Las Vegas Academy Theatre presents Native Son, by Paul Green and Richard Wright.
Chicago, 1930: Bigger Thomas, a poor but proud young black teen
coming-of-age in the inner city,
accidentally murders Mary Dalton,
the reckless daughter of his wealthy
white employers. Panic-stricken,
Bigger hides the girl’s body. But when
his crime is found out, Chicago’s most
prominent white citizens rally like a
lynch mob to see him punished to the
letter of the law. Wright’s exploration
of Bigger’s psychological corruption
gives us a new perspective on the
oppressive effect racism had on the
black population in 1930’s America.
Performances: April 28, 29, 30; May 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14
