New Jersey Ballet and the Morris Museum invite families to an interactive
and engaging introduction to the art of ballet with Ballet Up Close—a
welcoming, behind-the-scenes experience designed especially for children and
their families.
This family-friendly presentation offers young audiences the opportunity
to discover how dancers train, rehearse, and prepare for the stage. Through a
guided demonstration, Company artists will showcase elements of daily ballet
class—from barre exercises that build strength and technique to center work
that develops balance, coordination, and artistry. Children will gain insight
into the discipline, focus, and creativity required to become a professional
dancer.
The program will also feature a live performance excerpt from New Jersey
Ballet’s repertory, allowing families to experience the beauty and excitement
of ballet performed by professional artists in an intimate setting.
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to meet
the dancers, ask questions, and learn more about their training and careers. In
the lobby, families can explore curated displays offering an up-close look at
the tools of the art form—including pointe shoes, tutus, specialty costumes,
marley dance flooring, and other production elements that bring ballet to life
on stage.
Founded in 1958, New Jersey Ballet is committed to enriching lives
through performance and education, expanding access to world-class dance
throughout New Jersey. Ballet Up Close reflects that
mission—inviting the next generation to engage with ballet not just as
spectators, but as curious learners inspired by movement, music, and
storytelling.
An informative and joyful experience for all ages, this special event
opens the door to the magic of ballet—making the art form approachable,
accessible, and unforgettable for young audiences.
