New York City
Drawn from material in the national tour and original Broadway Seussical, the new adaptation weaves together many of Dr. Seuss’s most famous stories and characters in unexpected ways. Horton the elephant is the sympathetic hero, jeered by other inhabitants in the jungle of Nool for thinking there are people called the Whos living on a speck of dust. Horton has befriended one young Who name JoJo, a “thinker” of a strange and wonderful “thinks.” Horton, however, is too preoccupied to notice a small plain-tailed little bird, Gertrude McFuzz, because he must deal with showy Mayzie who’s abandoned her egg! The Coterie’s production will creatively employ puppetry, automata and change of scale in depicting Whoville.
