Choreographer Susana di Palma returns to 19th century Spain as she explores the complex social conditions behind the “Monton de Manila,” the luxurious, elaborately embroidered satin shawls worn by fashionable women. These elegant shawls were created by Chinese women who were exploited in “sweatshop” conditions for the sake of fashion. In this original work, Susana di Palma combines the explosive, sensual force of flamenco music and dance with original poetry by Wang Ping.
