About the Show

Gerald Charles Dickens plays the role of his great-great-grandfather, Charles Dickens, in this staged reading of a new play-in-progress by Jeffrey Hatcher.

Why would the beloved author of “A Christmas Carol,” “Tale of Two Cities” and many other classics, write a simple retelling of the life of Christ for his children, and ask that it not be published?

Playwright Hatcher explores with humor and insight the emotions and forces in Dickens’ life that may have motivated him, including his testy relationship with the pre-adolescent poet-to-be, Algernon Charles Swinburne.

An audience talk-back will follow each performance.
