Chicago takes place in the roaring 20s. Roxie Hart kills her faithless lover and lands in prison, alongside Velma Kelly, the paparazzi favorite among the murderesses of Cook County Jail. Vying for headlines, Roxie turns to prison matron Mama Morton for help, which Mama provides in the form of the sleazy, glamorous lawyer Billy Flynn. Knowing the spotlight will catapult both of their careers, he uses a little razzle-dazzle to exploit Roxie and her situation.
