Terrence McNally’s A Man of No Importance tells the musical tale of Alfie, a middle-aged bus conductor who lives with his sister in 1960’s Dublin. A modest and quiet man, Alfie finds his greatest satisfaction and identity as the artistic director for an amateur theatrical group. A passionate fan of Oscar Wilde, Alfie is determined to stage a version of Salome at his church despite the objections of church authorities. In the process of fighting for the play, Alfie is finally forced to confront his own sexual orientation and take a stand in the world.
