West Side Story

Trinity Rep presents West Side Story, the timeless musical that takes Romeo and Juliet to the streets of New York, where it’s a life and death fight for love. Called “the quintessential American musical,” this award-winning play sets the young love story against a backdrop of feuding neighborhoods – native New Yorkers pitted against Puerto Rican émigrés – in a tragic dance to the death over turf. Based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, the musical features a book by Arthur Laurents, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Under the direction of Amanda Dehnert, with choreography by Sharon Jenkins, Trinity Rep’s production promises to be an electrifying and passionate take featuring a cast of 20 powerhouse singer/dancers and a 16-piece orchestra.
