About This Show

The Theatre Cooperative presents The Value of Names, by Jeffrey Sweet, directed by Lesley Chapman.

Benny Silverman is an aging actor living peacefully in a house overlooking the Pacific. His daughter arrives to tell him she’s changing her name. He thinks it’s because it sounds “too Jewish,” but she has her own reasons. We then discover Benny was blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee–and that his best friend Leo, who named him in front of the committee, is directing his daughter’s upcoming play. When Leo arrives on the scene, the value of names becomes achingly apparent. Jeffrey Sweet’s taut, witty dialogue and intricately woven plot make this play what the Philadelphia Inquirer calls “A humdinger. The best.”

MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT: Jeffrey Sweet will attend the November 20th and 21st performances and participate in an audience discussion after the show.

Additional performances Sundays 11/21 & 12/5 @ 3:00.
