About This Show

The Japan Society of Boston will present the world-famous Mansaku-no-Kai
Kyogen Company in an evening of of the comic side of Noh theater led by Mansaku Nomura, designated as a Living National Treasure by the
Japanese government, and featuring his son, Mansai, a superstar of Japanese stage, film and television.

Kyogen, developed by the Samurai in the 14th and 15th centuries, satirize human frailties through stylized movement and dance. Originally designed as an interlude to the highly dramatic dance-drama form of Noh theatre, kyogen plays are characterized by realism and down-to-earth humor.
