In Richard Harris’ Dead Guilty, John Haddrell dies at the wheel of his car from a heart attack, and his lover Julia survives the accident with an acute depression that leaves her housebound. Soon an excessively solicitous widow (Margaret) invades her life; her counsellor (Anne) struggles to overcome Julia’s suicidal feelings, and her handyman (Gary) becomes the prime suspect when objects begin to disappear from her home.
