About This Show

Set against the backdrop of the 1969 moon landing, The Oblong Man follows the events in the lives of two middle-aged people in a small town on that historic night. Edwin, a lonely, life-long bachelor, has recently discovered where childhood friend, Luna, is living and has decided to ask her out on a date to watch the moon walk. However, Luna now suffers from a severe form of amnesia, has been institutionalized for the last 25 years and can no longer remember anything from the day before. Edwin’s appearance begins triggering memories for Luna. Intrigued by her sudden influx of memory, Luna accepts Edwin’s invitation, against the wishes of her imaginary protector, a Victorian Coachman. The Coachman appears throughout the play as her confidante, easing her thoughts and taking her away each night to the safety of some romantic forgotten past. Tonight would be different for Luna; tonight she would trade the security of not remembering, for the pain of knowing. As the play unfolds, Edwin too must face the defeats of his past as he is forced into disclosing the true nature of their childhood relationship.
