It’s England’s renowned Playbox Theatre in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary new look at the 1927 masterpiece, dazzling audiences with an explosion of circus, physical theatre, music, text and film. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Madonna, Ridley Scott, George Lucas and countless others have been inspired by Fritz Lang’s vision of the future in his distinctive silent movie. Written and directed by Stewart McGill, with film and digital media design by Kris Vankay and Juliet McGill and production design by Commedia, “METROPOLIS – REMIX,” featuring the 20 youth performers of the Playbox Theatre 2012 U.S. Tour, is a remix of ideas, images, themes and issues suggested by the groundbreaking motion picture, conceived as a poetic, imaginary and changing journey into the making of the movie, celebrating the power of early cinema and the long lasting effect the work has had on today’s film makers. Santa Monica Playhouse is proud to welcome the U.K’s renowned Playbox Theatre to Santa Monica on the occasion of their 11TH visit and the company’s 27th anniversary.
