New York City
Hailed by The New York Times as "startlingly imaginative," Chinese-born choreographer Shen Wei seeks to define new approaches to movement and the body. His choreography, at turns representational and abstract, incorporates Eastern and Western aesthetics with strong scenic elements to create a rich, multilayered fusion of movement and theater. For the company’s second Spoleto Festival USA engagement, his winning troupe of dancers performs Connect Transfer, a powerful and exhilarating piece in which the dancers use their bodies as paintbrushes, tracing patterns on a canvas floor to mesmerizing effect.
