About the Show

Opera Theater presents Lost in the Stars, Kurt Weill’s stirring Broadway opera based on Alan Paton’s internationally-acclaimed novel, Cry the Beloved Country, adapted by Maxwell Anderson. With Weill’s score – hailed as “rich and inventive: beautiful melodies” – Lost in the Stars views race relations in 1950s America through the prism of apartheid in South Africa, as two fathers each lose a son in a vicious cycle of inequality and injustice. In the end, only forgiveness and human decency can heal their pain. Directed by Jonathan Eaton and conducted by Julius Rudel.
