In 2001 Seattle baseball fans entered the season expecting a down year, but as the Mariners roared out to a huge lead it was soon apparent that they were in for a special season. With the All-Star Game being played at Safeco field, Seattle was truly the center of the baseball universe. Visions of a world series danced in fans’ heads until the season was tragically interrupted by 9/11. Despite setting the major league record for most wins in a season, things weren’t quite the same. There was no cheering in the streets, only muted celebrations and even die hard Mariners fans secretly rooted for the Yankees.
Lightning in a Bottle, set in a small Seattle neighborhood café, follows a group of employees and customers as they experience the highs and lows of the baseball season, the major transitions in their own lives, love, tragedy and 9/11.
