About This Show

Cynthia Waring Matthews first escaped the sorrow of her early days by retreating to a convent as a young woman. Emerging after a time to re-enter the world at large, she was looking for an occupation and found herself absorbed into the world of bodywork, where she became a licensed massage therapist and massaged over 20,000 people in 30 years, from the anonymous to the dazzlingly famous, from infants to the elderly, from those seeking healing to those seeking a bodily indulgence. In her practice, she made a unique discovery: That through her fingers, she was able to read bodies and into the histories of the people beneath her hands. She could unlock the experiences and traumas stored in their bodies through cellular memories. And not just theirs. Cynthia was able to contact their ancestral memories, genetically transferred records of lives and pain from generations past, pain essentially misowned by those in the present who inherited these certain memories. Through the power of her insights and her healing hands, Cynthia has been able to unbind the bodies of her subjects, liberating them for better days ahead.

Bodies Unbound is also Cynthia’s own story, of her triumph over a painful past that included childhood sexual abuse and later substance abuse, how she vanquished her own personal demons to achieve a life of joy and fulfillment.
