The critically hailed Opera A La Carte company comes to the Chicago Southland to present the beloved Gilbert and Sullivan classic The Mikado. The Mikado, Gilbert and Sullivan’s most well-known operetta, is a comedy presented in two acts. It remains one of the most quoted and referenced works of art form the 19th century, still relevant to popular culture today. Founded in 1970 by British Gilbert and Sullivan scholar and artist Richard Sheldon, Opera A La Carte remains the foremost Gilbert and Sullivan touring repertory company in the United States today. A free pre-performance lecture takes place at Engbretson Hall Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
