Melancholy Play is a new work by Sarah Ruhl, considered by many to be one of America’s most promising young playwrights. In this whimsical contemporary farce celebrating happiness and melancholy, a woman named Tilly makes her melancholy into such a sexy thing that everyone in her life falls in love with her. When Tilly suddenly finds happiness, her change of heart throws her whole universe off-kilter and the results are both mystical and hilarious.
