Lower Depths, The

Shattered Globe Theatre will conclude its ninth season with Maxim Gorky’s masterpiece THE LOWER DEPTHS. Considered the first great play of the 20th century, Gorky’s ground breaking classic dives into the hearts of the fallen elite and the perpetually poor. The inhabitants of The Lower Depths are tossed into action by insuperable circumstances. In a world that has all but lost its heart, the characters reflect on their fears and their worldly and spiritual hopes for ascension to the glorious. This production is as significant and touching in the first days of this new millennium as it was a century ago.
