About This Show

Written & Translated into English by Joshua Sobol, GHETTO is the story of the Vilna ghetto and its theatre during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania, 1941-43. Inspired by the theatre’s history, the production recreates its vibrant life, which served as a site of resistance and cultural survival for the Jewish people. The story unfolds from the perspective of Srulik, the theatre’s Artistic Director. Through his vigorous retelling, the audience relives the singular creativity of the ghetto theatre as well as of the ultimate destruction of the ghetto itself.
The performances will run in Theatre Building’s North Theatre.
