About This Show

This world premiere production of acclaimed Chicago Playwright David Barr’s Black Caesar is loosely based on the Orson Wells film classic Citizen Kane. The play chronicles the life of C.J. Caesar, an embittered African-American newspaper mogul who builds a media empire through playing the ‘race card’ and exacerbating racial tensions. Upon Caesar’s suicide, T. Darryl Heggans is assigned the thankless task of writing a ‘glowing’ tribute to the late publisher while he fights his own demons.
