About This Show

110 in the Shade is the story of a lonely woman living in a drought-stricken town in the 1930s dust bowl west. She feels love has passed her by until a charismatic wanderer, claiming to be a Rainmaker, gives her hope. This love story, with music and lyrics by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, the creators of The Fantasticks, is based on N. Richard Nash’s play The Rainmaker, immortalized on the screen by Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster. Mr. Jones has been working closely with Light Opera Works artistic director Rudy Hogenmiller to provide a revised script, including two songs not heard in the original Broadway production, in anticipation of a New York revival of the show at the Roundabout Theater in the spring of 2007.
