In William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Prospero, the usurped Duke of Milan and now master magician, rules the enchanted island where he and his beautiful daughter Miranda have been marooned for twelve years. Prospero creates a powerful storm that causes the ship carrying those responsible for his exile to wreck ashore the island. Aided by his sprightly servant Ariel, Prospero plots revenge while elsewhere on the island a motley crew of misfits has plans of their own. As Miranda falls in love with the son of one of her father’s foes, the dynamics change and cause Prospero to ponder the sweetness of revenge and the grace of forgiveness.
