About This Show

Barbara Undershaft is a new musical in its first performances, with music, lyrics and direction by Gerald Moshell, Professor of Music. Adapted from the play Major Barbara by George Bernard Shaw, and re-set in 1937, this premiere features a student cast of 15. Barbara Undershaft is a Major in the Salvation Army. Her estranged father is a wealthy munitions manufacturer. Their wildly divergent worldviews provide the central battleground of wit, intellect and passion that made Shaw’s 1905 play one of the most significant and entertaining “plays of ideas” in the entire 20th century.
