About the Show

Adapted by Laurence Maslon. Musical direction by Steven Blier, artistic director of the New York Festival of Song. Featuring David Garrison, Anne-Carolyn Bird, Marc Kudisch, Emily Swallow, and a very special political correspondent as narrator. Just in time for election fever, “Mr. Gershwin” puts together all of the Gershwin brothers’ best satirical songs, including “Of Thee I Sing” and “Strike Up the Band”, into a narrative about the presidential trials and tribulations of John P. Wintergreen and a zany crew of running mates, opponents, anarchists, and, of course, his devoted First Lady. An earlier presentation of this show was an acclaimed event at the 2002 Hamptons Music Festival.
