New York City
Suburban Motel
$8.00-$15.00; $25.00 New Year's Eve
For two weekends in December, PushPush Theater once again brings a non-traditional holiday offering–one not too far removed from something most can relate to during the holidays: the harsher-but-funnier-side of family relationships! You’ll think your family is normal after you see George F. Walkers’ collection of insane short comedies called Suburban Motel. We’re starting with three of the six: Criminal Genius, about a mob-job kidnapping gone terribly wrong, Featuring Loretta, about a young starlet who just wants to live “this girls life” on her own terms in the porn-film business and the two lechers that keep her from it, and Risk Everything, about a risk-taking mother willing to gamble the lives of those closest to her in an attempt to live her version of the good life. These Tarantino/Coen Brothersesque plays each take place in a motel room and offer a glimpse into some of the most outrageous situations one could imagine getting into. They will wear you out–or at least get your blood pumping. They’re fast, and they’re funny, and they’re surprisingly insightful for today.
