About This Show

Set in New York during World War II, this show was the winner of a Tony for Best Play as well as the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Jay and Arty Kurnitz are shipped off to their stern, German grandmother because their father, deeply in debt, needs to extend a sales trip…for a full year! While sharing the cramped house with Aunt Bella, who has never quite grown up, and Uncle Louis, a petty thief with possible mob connections, the boys discover profound lessons about love and life.
