The Firebird

The Firebird is performed as a part of the 2004-05 NEW DIRECTIONS SERIES (NDS) for adult audiences at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

Young Prince Ivan is ordered by his father, the Tsar, to seek The Firebird, a beautiful yet untouchable animal of legend. His quest is plagued by jealous siblings and deceptions, as he also tries to rescue an irresistable, vulnerable princess with the help of a heroic friend. Incorporating elements from many versions of the ancient folktale, this vibrant retelling of the story is inspired by the costumes, architecture and art of old Russia.
