Ramblin Man – A Tribute to the Allman Brothers Band
Ramblin Man – A Tribute to the Allman Brothers Band takes their name from one of the most iconic songs by the South’s greatest band. Based “out of Nashville, Tennessee,” the band boasts some of the finest players in the “Music City” that Duane and Gregg Allman were born in. It’s all there – the twin guitar harmonies, the dueling drummers, the soulful vocals and adept keyboards and bass. But more important than all of that is the spirit. These men have it. They live and breathe it. Like the river that “keeps on flowin” in Dickey Betts’ classic “Blue Sky,” all of Ramblin Man’s members have been playing music since they were boys. And their love of the Allman Brothers Band goes deep.
For lead guitarist and vocalist Nick Swan, it all began with an outdoor show at Knoxville’s World’s Fair Park seeing the band’s 90’s comeback lineup for the first time. Slide guitarist Dan Wecht grew up in New Jersey and regularly caught the band’s residency at NYC’s Beacon Theatre. Bassist Gary Davis cut his teeth on Berry Oakley’s intricate basslines while growing up near Memphis, TN.
And while many ABB tributes tend to focus their setlists primarily on the mostly blues-based Fillmore-era original lineup, Ramblin Man draws from the band’s entire 40+ year history, highlighting the amazing compositions of longtime guitarist Dickey Betts, as well as notable contributions from later members like Chuck Leavell, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. Tryin’ to make a livin and doin the best they can. That’s what you’ll get every time with Ramblin Man.
