Disney’s High School Musical

It all started as a simple Disney Channel movie about a group of students auditioning for the school play. It soon became High School Musical, a record-breaking, chart-topping production – the film’s soundtrack was the
best-selling album of 2006, the video was the top-selling video – that jumped from screen to stage. Now High School Musical has made it to Stamford in the full-length version.

With echoes of West Side Story and Grease, High School Musical is a story of
two high school juniors from rival cliques: Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, initially divide the school. Despite other students’ attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer
pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to “stick with the status quo.” In the end, Troy and Gabriella unite the school; the final number is “We’re All In This Together.”
