Sweet Charity is a tender; poignant and consistently funny look at the adventures, or rather the misadventures, in the ways of love encountered by the gullible and guileless Charity Hope Valentine. While working at the seedy Fan-Dango ballroom, Charity continually experiences bad relationships. Finally, having met a decent fellow, Oscar, she tries to hide her true profession by telling him that she works in a bank. Soon, Oscar proposes but then discovers Charity’s real profession and backs out of the marriage. Charity lives hopefully ever after in this romantic comedy about the misadventures of a Fan-Dango Ballroom dancer that includes the songs “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “The Rhythm of Life,” and “I’m a Brass Band.”
