New York City
The Lakewood Cultural Center and Miners Alley Playhouse present Spoon River Anthology. Based on the poems of Edgar Lee Masters, and adapted for the stage by Charles Aidman, the dead of Spoon River, Illinois are now free to voice the secrets they guarded so well during their days on earth.
Death being the great equalizer, they no longer fear the consequences that so often restrained them in life. The lawyers, prostitutes, politicians, doctors, atheists, drunkards, housewives, preachers and scoundrels speak frankly, telling us of their lives, their pain and their pleasures. They only wish now to find the way to soothe their souls and move on to the next plain.
