First produced in Dubin in 1907, The Playboy of the Western World caused fighting and rioting in the streets. Christy Mahon is a frightened and shy young man on the run, thinking he has killed his father. He is takend in by Pegeen. He eventually wins the town’s respect and Pegeen’s love by shattering both parental and legal authority.
