About This Show

Ensemble member Joy Gregory’s musical tells the true and bittersweet story of one of America’s worst rock bands, The Shaggs. In 1965, three sisters from Fremont, NH were forced to drop out of high school to start a band by their father in fulfillment of his mother’s prophecy. The girls’ first album, the odd and awful Philosophy of the World, was later declared by Frank Zappa to be “better than the Beatles.” A heartbreaking journey through destiny, salvation and the dark side of the American dream.

Featuring original book & lyrics by Joy Gregory, story by Joy Gregory & John Langs, and original music by Gunnar Madsen. Directed by John Langs.
