Le Collier d’Hélène

About the Show

Théâtre français de Toronto presents the award-winning Canadian playwright Carole Fréchette, for the first time in her native language in Toronto. Le Collier d’Hélène (Helen’s Necklace) casts an unflinching look at the tension which exists between the comfort of our Canadian lives and the tenuousness of everyday life for people in the Middle-East. Directed by Guillaume Bernardi.

Somewhere, in a hot and war torn city, Hélène, a North-American tourist discovers that she has lost her white faux pearl necklace. Guided by her taxi driver through a maze of devastated streets, Hélène goes on a frantic search for her trinket, which seems to have taken on unexpected value. As she is led through the entrails of the city, Hélène is faced with the devastation of warfare and the enormity of people¹s suffering, all seen through her own sense of loss.
