About This Show

Women on the Edge celebrates the contributions of women working in the dance theater field. These choreographers are merging the boundaries of dance and theater to create unique, compelling, and cutting edge work.

Performance Works

Cynthia Adams performs her acclaimed solo The Beast (2003), which combines text and movement to tell the story of her wild rollercoaster ride dealing with Western medicine as she confronts the ticking of her biological clock.

Chris Black introduces a new dance-theater solo, Unraveling, about knitting, motherhood and keeping it all together.

Sara Kraft presents Remote: Lab Study #11, in collaboration with Ed Purver, fusing movement, song, sound, non-linear narrative and interactive media.

Monique Jenkinson explores the beginnings of her new solo, Crying in Public. This piece takes a humorous look at the inherent inappropriateness and inconvenience of typically female behavior.

Michelle Spenser Ellsworth presents ED: The Word Made Dress, in which a pentagonal 150lb. dress called ED offers an alternative to ineffective psychological, dietary, and democratic coping devices. The dress literally and fashionably solves problems by providing safety, art, and peace through materialism.

Joan Bruemmer performs an excerpt from, Maria Est Perdu, a new solo in part two of the Le Caractere Feminin trilogy, co-developed and performed with Krista DeNio.
