What happens when a Jewish/Black interracial couple becomes trapped at a Southern plantation on a stormed-filled night? Voices Underwater, a new play by Abi Basch, explores that and the secrets the house contains. This production, in partnership with Playwright’s Foundation, will open TJT’s 27th season along with an additional playwrighting workshop in December. The play unlocks the secrets which threaten to drown the couple’s tenuous future together. This poetic mystery vivisects one of America’s key psycho-emotional traumas revealing a terrible, oft unspoken history shared by both Black and Jewish Americans.
