About the Show

The Last Yiddish Poet was the second of TJT’s many original works of theatre and was written by co-founders Corey Fischer, Albert Greenberg and Naomi Newman. The Last Yiddish Poet will be directed by Naomi Newman and performed by Artistic Director, Aaron Davidman and Corey Fischer with musical direction by Dan Cantrell. To begin the celebration of the company’s 30th Anniversary, TJT will present its first new rendition of the play since 1994. Audiences will quickly recognize all the elements that have made TJT synonymous with adventurous and powerful theatre: vivid, realistic and fantastic characters leapfrogging through a landscape full of humor and deep emotion; music, giant puppets and dynamic physicality. The play, set in motion by a pair of irreverent, lost Jewish comedians, follows a mythical "Last" Yiddish poet on a journey through his own past –
from the origins of the language, through the flowering of its poetry in the 1920s in New York, Warsaw and Buenos Aries, and to a final crossroads where annihilation and transcendence are both at hand.
