The Dreamstealers is a science fable, a contemporary spin on the Pinocchio story that weaves a new mythology for twenty-first century America, clothed in glorious, trancelike verse. Nearing his death, the HeadGreek (CEO, president, and oppressive overlord of the Dream factory Nightship Industries) has created an artificial child from the residue of unsuspecting dreamers’ dreams. His nefarious plot: to stave off his own demise by transferring his psyche into the dream boy, thus attaining immortal life. Throw into the mix the twin Harpies of Chaos, scheming beauties who are busy plotting their own rise to power, Sleepwalker, an erotically charged gen-Xer trapped in Dreamland, MotherE, the ailing goddess of all nature, as well as a handful of other creatures, politicians, and grotesques – all grasping for their piece of the action – and you have a delightful and disturbing cautionary tale for our human and technological future. FoolsFURY presents this work by Stephen Jacob, directed by Ben Yalom.
