Denis Johnson’s Soul of a Whore is a three act play written entirely in modern verse. The story follows the career of William Jennings Bryant Jenks, a Texas preacher whose gifts for spiritual healing collide with the failings of his character. His journey ends in the death house – but not because he’s been convicted of any crime.
