Savage Arts

The story is told from the point of view of Margaret, a young housewife stuck at home with an ailing husband. Longing for novelty, she becomes increasingly drawn into the exotic world of the French artist who has moved into the house next door. Margaret is honest and kind with a strict moral code, yet neither this nor her sincere marital devotion are strong enough to fend off the painter’s illicit appeal. Her moral quandary only deepens when a Seneca Indian woman from a nearby reservation, a model for the painter’s science museum dioramas, is accused of a crime. Margaret becomes increasingly entangled in an unfamiliar and dangerous world of art, passion, witchcraft and prejudice where everything she believes is thrown into disarray.
