On Golden Pond

Linda Hoy and George Ward star in On Golden Pond, a gentle, moving comedy about a relationship slipping into its twilight years. In the play, Norman and Ethel Thayer return to Maine to spend their forty-eighth summer together at their home on Golden Pond. It is a quiet place, full of memories, but this year the Thayers are not as sanguine. Norman, about to turn eighty, feels that this will be his last summer on Golden Pond, and Ethel, ten years younger and still vital and spry, also begins to sense mortality. They are visited on Norman’s birthday by their daughter Chelsea, her fiance Bill Ray and his tacitum son Billy, whom the Thayers agree to take in tow for the rest of the summer while Chelsea and Bill Ray go to Europe together. Over the course of the summmer, resentful Billy and cantankerous Norman form an unlikely bond, exposing the tenderness and longing that lie beneath the surface of Golden Pond.
